I figured we should start a Salesforce channel.

Jesse Fusselman
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:17 PM
This can be a place to post cool things like you can close all Salesforce tabs with shift+w (I just learned that) or questions we may have etc

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:18 PM
why did you name it crm?

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:19 PM
the CRM master races asks that you update the name of the channel

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:19 PM
to

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:19 PM
$ale$force

Jesse Fusselman
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:22 PM
well, I thought CRM with master was clever...until I saw $ale$force

Jesse Fusselman
Mon, Mar 4, 2019, 3:23 PM
can't use $ in the name :disappointed:

Jordan Hush

Anyone indexed a field before? What are some things I should know/beware of? One of our integrations is throwing errors, which will presumably go away if we index the fields it uses to query SF, namely the contact email field

Jesse Fusselman
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:03 PM
@Rachel C were you involved in the indexing of any of the fields here?

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:03 PM
why is it throwing the error?

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:03 PM
what is the error you are getting?

Rachel C
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:06 PM
Not here but I did it at my last gig - we had to contact Salesforce to index it for us and I don’t recall us running into any issues. I’m trying to remember what field it was…

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
yeah there should be nothing on the front end that would interfere with indexing

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
It’s Calendly. It’s throwing the error because it has to query too many contact records via the contact email

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
it make commonly queried fields quicker to access

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
is it querying via SOQL query?

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
is this in a flow?

Jesse Fusselman
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
@J'Danni Petersen have you indexed the phone field yet?

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:08 PM
Ok. So it will only make every associated automation run smoother? lol That’s what it seems like

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
it’s automatically index from SF it seems, but I need to customize it to make it more efficient

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
this sounds more like a governer limit issue

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
it’s in a flow

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
i’ll copy the error here

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
so you are collecting a bunch of records in a flow

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
yes. it’s a governer limit warning sorry

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
I call them all errors

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
so yeah - you need to redo your query

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
to get below the limit

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
Operation: insert.CalendlyAction__c By user/organization: 00515000006d9wF/00D15000000FT7B Caused the following Apex resource warnings: Approaching limit for non-selective query against large object type (more than 200000 rows). Current size is approximately 155369 rows. When the limit is reached, the query will fail. Consider an indexed filter or contact http://salesforce.com|salesforce.com about custom indexing.

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
and split it up

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:09 PM
yep

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:10 PM
The frustrating thing is Salesforce won’t tell us anything about their existing indexes. Like brah… how am I supposed to improve an invisible query? :joy:

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:11 PM

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
plus, I would make the field either an External Id or get them to custom index it

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
I am 50/50 on whether or not a custom index will solve this

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
Oh they’ll do it?

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
understandable

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
that makes wayyy more sense

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
regardless, I would get better at being more selective with the query

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM
yeah

J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:12 PM

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:13 PM
and this

Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:13 PM
```The default limit for the maximum number of custom indexes is 20. There are three ways custom indexes are created. Either: A) By marking a field as "External" or "Unique". NOTE: This has it's own limit as well which is defaulted at 7. B) Some indexes are created automatically when our systems determine a field will benefit from it. C) By Salesforce Support, as part of a performance case. (Ex: SOQL queries or Analytic Reports timing out)```
Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:13 PM
but I would be careful with C
J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:16 PM
mmmm
J'Danni Petersen
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:16 PM
in a perfect world, A would be the perfect option
Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Tue, Mar 5, 2019, 2:21 PM
When you hit 92% of your API usage and the chat app crashes at the same time (issues not related)
I feel like you need to have them rework the main integration with product over there so it isn't eating up so much API.
Jesse Fusselman
Wed, Mar 20, 2019, 12:04 PM
Good luck with both scenarios, I hope it's not too stressful.
Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
not that the chat app wasn't eating up API
Jesse Fusselman
Wed, Mar 20, 2019, 2:14 PM
I guess I read his statement to mean that the high api usage was not related to the chat app crashing and vice versa that the chat app has nothing to do with the high usage. Whoops
Yeah it’s unrelated. Also, yes we’ve been moving towards reworking the product API integration. Not top priority unfortunately.
Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Wed, Mar 20, 2019, 2:01 PM
It should be if you are constantly eating APIs and hitting above 80% at all times
Erik A Lopez, IT Professional
Wed, Mar 20, 2019, 2:01 PM
that is a waste of money to NOT address it if the above is the case
Salesforce to Paint Golden Gate Bridge Blue For Dreamforce Conference - Broke-Ass Stuart's Website
Every September downtown San Francisco is completely overrun by Salesforce’s giant Dreamforce conference. Thousands of people come from around the world to do whatever it is that people do at Dreamforce, while the city’s already hellish traffic is made considerably worse by the closing down of streets near Moscone Center.
