I'm a Software Engineer, and I was brought to Thumbtack (TT) last October as an experimental effort to hire more engineers in Utah because San Francisco is too competitive. In the 10 months since then, I've changed managers 3 times, changed teams three times, and got slotted into the lowest engineering level we have here (level 4, new college grad), even though I've been doing this for almost a decade. I asked my boss (also in SF) if my level was going to be adjusted during the August review cycle, and his reply was a resounding 'no' and that we'd look at it in February if I can start performing at a higher level. So I applied for a senior position at Adobe and was promptly offered the position. Also my chair sucked, so that was part of the reason I quit.
