Top highlights from my trip with Dan to Japan (11 days) in order when they happened: Tokyo, ramen (so good), shrines, rice balls, Shinjuku!, Cat Cafe Calico, (several story) ARCADES, Robot...

Oh dude @Evencio Bahena between my friend Dan and I, we took too many pictures haha. Now I'm struggling to choose which ones to share (because nobody wants to look through hundreds of context-less photos). But I'll try to post that out today :) (probably on Facebook) But long story short: 'twas _subarashi_! From temples and shrines to robots and bullet trains, Japan has it all. We went to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Himeji, Osaka, then back to Tokyo over 11 days. So much. So great. :)

Amazing! Terrific idea! I'm thankful for: 1). A rad, warm, homely, and close to downtown apartment with the boys (the Big J's). 2). Trips of all kinds, because that has meant good times with friends worldwide (Jackson Hole, Illinois, Japan, Des Moines, SLC, Walgreen's -- to name a few). 3). Funk music. This really was the astrological year of the funk for me in music. Mmhmm. (Oh, and new beginnings, especially with Friends Worldwide!)

from what I recall... the template had a basic structure of: 1) summarize the project, its purpose, the problems it tried to address, the solutions chosen, and any further resources / related documents. 2) evaluate the hypothesis, success metrics, and outcomes 3) note what went well and what didn't go so well 4) leave the reader with awesome conclusions and terrific lessons learned that are directly applicable in future projects 5) use of imagery (as seen in your _The Future Is WOW_ presentation) is strongly encouraged for better clarity and understanding

There is immense research on the subject, but I'm interested in the general perception of the concept.

This is a fascinating topic, how would you define achievement? I feel like once you start to get a really high IQ you stop seeking achievement per se and instead focus on whatever topic fascinates you. This could turn into achievement but that becomes a secondary or even tertiary pursuit.

Keep in mind, I'm not being a reductionist here. There are absolutely other factors, but do you believe IQ correlates with these categories of achievement?

That’s complicated. I think we all have a baseline intelligence. But also one of the basic principles of our anatomy is that the body adapts to its environment- which applies to working out, but also learning. The brain can change- so I would assume IQ can also.

Because family is one of those things that you can't find in several cities that might have good proximity to all the other things you value. (There are lots of mountains, art, jobs, and friends to be had all around Earth, but a family is a fixed and finite thing.)

I too am a people of Earth. Top 5 factors in no particular order: Money (job and cost of living), access to family, access to friends, climate, access to my hobbies. Even if a city has most of these if I can't afford to live in a part of the city that gives me good access to these things it could be disqualified.

Proximity, Bethany summed it up well. Obligation is a huge factor. Good, but limited opportunity. (e.g., I don’t need 50 coffee shop options, I only need one or two.) So big cities are out. Small towns are out though, because I like ease of access to cool concerts and the like. Safety and cleanliness is important (my sister lives in a dangerous place now… I like feeling safe walking home on a Friday night.) I hate driving, so I like everything being close to me (downtown, heck I can bike to work still).

Personally, I'm realizing music is a huge factor for me, but it's something I'm only just now learning as I experience different music scenes in different cities. (For instance, how many open mic nights or open jam nights can you attend in an average week? How many places have live music? What's the style/genre of most local bands?) Otherwise I hold similar "criteria", like "climate"/weather, crime, cleanliness, good vibes, walkability, traffic, art and culture, food diversity,...

Like "crime" to me means an evaluation of "How would I feel if a female friend was walking home from downtown by herself?" (Boise is probably/miraculously one of the only cities I know of that I'd feel okay with that.)

I think "climate" means "good" 4 seasons: Summer: Do I feel like I'm walking into a hot wet towel when I walk outside? (Humidity.) Winter: Do I feel like I will die on ice every time I try to walk more than 20 feet? (Cold.) Spring: Do I feel like I can go outside for more than 5 minutes without wearing a jacket of deet? (Bugs.) Fall: Do I feel like everything is wet and muddy? (Rain.)

I feel safe walking home. I know crime happens here. We aren’t guaranteed safe. My sisters bf makes her carry a switch blade where she lives now, like when she goes for a run, because he knows it’s not safe. I can’t imagine living somewhere like that

For me, being a young person looking to make sure I’m not wasting money, and maybe even moving to a place where my money spend can make me more money… I’ve been looking at the real-estate trends and taxes in certain areas of interest. I want to own… not rent, so if I spend money on a place and pay $XXX,XXX for a nice property, will that property value increase? Or am I going to lose on my investment, and usually most of the other factors that have already been mentioned play into property value. For example: if a place is crime-free, walkable, good-vibes, and it stays that way or gets better then the value increases. So by paying attention to real-estate you can get a good feel for if a place is becoming a better place to live, or if it is getting worse… So I use real-estate to try to anticipate if a place is 1) Affordable 2) Getting better/is it gaining value 3) Is the area generally nice (property looks good and taken care of)

Right, situationally it would be different. I would not raise a kid in the block I’m on now, heavens no my neighborhood is not kid friendly. But as much as I can help it, I want to stay in an interesting neighborhood (there are lots in downtown boise that _are_ kid friendly).

1. Prefer to live? Somewhere sunny and warm most of the year with awesome views and a good mix of activities/diversity, like San Diego or Miami. 2. Realistically gonna live? Somewhere affordable but also not sucky, something in the middle, compromise a bit on things you get at premium locations ^. Boise is not particularly off the charts exciting but it does have an rare balance: ~affordable, less traffic, clean air, good outdoors, some jobs, safe, close to family (for me).
